Mowa zależna – pytania

 

SZYK ZDANIA

 

Większość pytań w języku angielskim tworzymy przez szyk przestawny:

 

I will see what can be done.                          Will you see what can be done?  

She's seen this film.                                            Has she seen this film?

 

 Zasada ta nie obowiązuje jednak w przypadku mowy zależnej. Pytania w mowie zależnej zachowują szyk zdania twierdzącego:

 

Will you see what can be done?                                  She asked me if I would see what can be done.

Has she seen this film?                                      I asked her if she had seen that film.

Are you 20?                                                             He asked me if I was 20.

 

 

NASTĘPSTWO CZASÓW

 

Należy pamiętać, że w pytaniach w mowie zależnej, podobnie jak w zdaniach twierdzących, obowiązuje następstwo czasów:

 

'When was your house built?' asked Peter.           Peter asked when my house had been built.

'Do you know this woman?' asked my wife.         My wife asked if I knew that woman.

'Is Ann ill?' asked Ted.                                                         Ted asked if Ann was ill.

 

Konieczna jest także zamiana zaimków oraz okoliczników miejsca i czasu:

 

'Are you feeling OK?' asked Douglas.                        Douglas asked (me) if I was feeling OK.

'Is it here?' asked Celia.                                                      Celia asked if it was there.

'Will you be home tonight?' asked Ian.                    Ian asked if I would be home that night.

 

 

IF/WHETHER

 

Jeżeli pytanie, które zamieniamy na mowę zależną zaczyna się od zaimka pytającego, zaimek ten zostaje zachowany:

 

'What's this?' I asked.                                       I asked what that was.

'Where are you going?' asked Ty.              Ty asked where I was going.

 

W przypadku tzw. 'yes/no questions' konieczne jest użycie spójnika if lub whether. Oba znaczą dokładnie to samo („czy”), przy czym whether jest bardziej formalne.

 

'Are you hungry?' asked David.                                                      David asked if/whether I was hungry.

'Do you speak English?' asked the man.                                   The man asked if/whether I spoke English.

 

 

WANTED TO KNOW

 

Oprócz czasownika ask, pytania w mowie zależnej można relacjonować przy użyciu innych zwrotów:

 

'Excuse me, where are the toilets?'           She inquired where the toilets were.

'Are you busy?'                                                       He wanted to know if I was busy.
