Both znaczy oba, obie, oboje i występuje w zdaniach w następujących konstrukcjach:

 

·       both + (the) + rzeczownik w liczbie mnogiej:

 

I've seen both films.

Both the cars are mine.

 

·       both + of + rzeczownik w liczbie mnogiej/zaimek:

 

Both of the matches were played in the evening.

I like both of them.

 

·       samo both:

 

Which one do you want? – Both.

 

·       both... and... (zarówno..., jak i...):

 

Both men and women belong to the club.

She plays both the violin and the guitar.

 

 

EITHER

 

Either także odnosi się do dwóch osób lub rzeczy i znaczy jeden z dwóch, obojętnie który.

W zdaniach występuje w następujących konstrukcjach:

 

 

·       either + rzeczownik w liczbie pojedynczej:

 

Either time would suit me.

 

·       either + of + rzeczownik w liczbie mnogiej/zaimek:

 

You can stay in either of the hotels.

There are two hotels in the town. You can stay in either of them.

Which one do you want? – Either.

 

·       either... or...(albo...albo...):

 

I'll go either now or tomorrow.

NEITHER

 

Neither znaczy żaden i występuje w następujących konstrukcjach:

 

·       neither + rzeczownik w liczbie pojedynczej:

 

Neither hotel is cheap.

 

·       neither + of + rzeczownik w liczbie mnogiej/zaimek:

 

Neither of the hotels is cheap..

There are two hotels in the town. Neither of them is cheap.

 

·       samo neither

 

Which hotel is cheap? – Neither.

 

·       neither... nor...(ani...ani...):
