Wyrażenia although, though, even though, in spite of, despite

 

ALTHOUGH/THOUGH

 

Spójniki although i though znaczą choć/chociaż i mogą być używane wymiennie.

 

Although/Though it was cold, the children spent the whole day outside playing and riding their bicycles.

 

I didn't pass the exam although/though I answered most of the questions.

 

W mowie potocznej though często pojawia się na końcu zdania w znaczeniu ale:

 

I don't like the way she dresses. She wears very fine shoes though.

Mike has a great sense of humour. He uses it rarely though.

 

 

 

EVEN THOUGH

 

Even though ma trochę mocniejszą wymowę od although/though, ale używany jest w podobnych sytuacjach:

 

Even though it was cold, the children spent the whole day outside playing and riding their bicycles.

 

I didn't pass the exam even though I answered most of the questions.

 

 

IN SPITE OF/DESPITE

 

In spite of oraz despite znaczą mimo/pomimo i wymagają użycia wyrażenia rzeczownikowego lub formy -ing:

 

I didn't get the job in spite of/despite my work experience and necessary qualifications.

 

The children spent the whole day outside playing and riding their bicycles in spite of/despite the cold weather.

 

I didn't pass the exam in spite of/despite answering most of the questions.
